Unlike Against the Day, the first words of a chapter or section in Mason & Dixon are not capitalized. The choice for ending a quote of a section must be, in this case, rather arbitrary. Where the novel uses superscript in the abbreviation "Revd", this is shown as "Revd". This is due to browser compatibility issues. When the chapter or section starts with quotes from Reverend Cherrycoke's writings, the Pennsylvaniad, a letter or a song, the same style is used, f.e.: Only when the blank space between one of these quotes and the narrative is twice as much as normal, this is considered as a new section [this happens only twice]. The novel's last section is cited in its entirety. The idea for this ToC was developed by Monte Davis, who compiled the Against the Day extended Table of Contents. There is also a one page Toc for V.
